Come join us for a great learning opportunity designed to teach how to can, dehydrate and freeze your fruits, vegetables and herbs safely. You will learn food preservation by strict USDA and University standards to prevent contamination by bacteria, molds, yeast, and other foodborne illnesses, including Clostridium botulinum. You will learn how to safely use a water bath canner, pressure canner, and a dehydrator. The last class will concentrate on emergency food and water storage and how to purify water from a questionable source.

May 16         Food spoilage and preservation,  How to freeze fruits & vegetables, vacuum sealing.

         23           Food borne illness & prevention.  Dehydrating fruits and vegetables.

         30           Basic principles of home canning; water bath canning, fruits (cold & hot pack).

June   6         Canning tomatoes and tomato products; tomatoes salsa both tomato & fruit salsa, (cold & hot pack).

         13           Preventing botulism; pressure canning (legumes & carrots).

         27           Fruit spreads and syrups; Jams and marmalades.

July  11         Fermenting foods; flavored oils, sour dough starter, dairy and non-dairy yogurt.

        18            Making and canning juices, using a steam juicer, fruit juices.

        25            Canning pie fillings

Aug   1            Emergency food and water purification and storage.

Mar 21   Laundry detergent, bleach alternative, fabric stain remover, fabric softener sheets. Cleaning products:  All purpose spray cleaner, window and glass cleaner, scouring                          powder and soft scrub.  Liquid hand soap, foam pump soap, hair brush and comb cleaner. Mar  28  Learn how to use an instant pot, if you have one, bring it to class so you can follow along with the presenter.  Nancy Cooper.

Ethnic Cooking Class (Click to Expand)

Classes will be held on Sunday evenings from 5:00pm to 6:30 pm, between March 7, 2021 and July 11, 2021.  Classes are open to the church family and the community, and they are free.  Recipes are available for all dishes that are demonstrated, and samples are also available for tasting.
